You exit the orphanage, and soon find yourself surrounded by earthy mountains. Smooth cliffs overlook your humble hometown of Foalshire as it basks in the morning sunlight, grass and leaves shimmering after a nightly rain.

With Honourshine never far behind, you set out to explore the area together. Squealing and laughter echo in the air as you slide down slippery slopes and hop into wet puddles of mud without a care in the world.

Before long, you stumble across a small rock shelter hidden away in a mossy valley. As you venture inside, a faint glimmer beckons you to the far wall. There, half-buried into the ground, you find what looks to be a tarnished golden bell. Treasure!

Honourshine: "Wow, look at this thing! It must be hundreds of years old."

Taking a closer look at the bell, you are able to discern letter-like engravings, though you cannot decipher what they mean. You can't help but wonder if it's worth anything.

Honourshine: "In bits, I'm not so sure, but it might've had sentimental value to somepony. Hey, would you let me have it? I'd like to bring it to the library and see if I can't learn anything about it."

Sensing Honourshine's intuition strike, you agree to let her take the bell in for studying. And while she does that, you return to the mountains, this time on a quest to investigate one of many landslides down in the mountain pass.

You make your way around an impassable roadblock of uprooted trees and stone only to find a caravan camping on the other side, likely waiting for the debris to be cleared. As you get closer, one of the merchants notices you.

Merchant: "Look, a filly! We must be closer to the village than we thought. Excuse me, you there! Are you from Foalshire?"

You reply that you are, and being familiar with the terrain, you offer to show them a detour around the blockade. Considering the alternative, the merchants hesitantly agree, and begin to follow you along an improvised trail.

As you reach the village, you turn to look proudly at the trail you've made, soon to become a road travelled by many. Never before have you felt such a strong sense of belonging.

Suddenly, a spark in the corner of your eye catches your attention. On your flank, an azure flag over a golden star appears. A cutie mark!

Filled with excitement, you run to go tell Honourshine, and meet her halfway to the library. When you show her your newly earned cutie mark, she eagerly shows you hers: a sparkling teal magnifying glass.

Honourshine: "No way! I just got mine, too!"

You share a tight celebratory hug, then recount what happened to each other. With your cute-ceañera now just around the corner, and only a hoofful of bits to your name, you immediately begin to think about what gift you should get your best friend.
