You roll a seventeen...

Tempting fate, Blood Edge dashes around the golem, and flanks it with his longsword. The blade sinks into the cracked stone once more, dealing two damage.

Seeing her wounded ally barely at hoof's length from the enemy, Opaline hastily casts another spell, and a burst of bubbling light heals Blood Edge back to full health.

Opaline: "I'll have to keep an eye on this one..."

Playing it safe, Tailkicker raises her shield, anticipating her foe's next attack.

Whirlpool: "Fortuniaaa‼"

Before the golem can react, Whirlpool smashes her electrified flail into its sigil once more for six damage, and the stone shatters. The massive construct falls lifelessly to the ground, shaking the earth around it. A blue mist soon escapes its body, and forms four magic orbs, which are then absorbed by each of the heroes...

Dawn Break: "You have defeated the golem. Everypony gains four experience points. Congratulations, Blood Edge and Tailkicker, you are now level... four."

Sweet Biscuit: "Hey, you're catching up!"

Dawn Break: "Tailkicker, your maximum health increases to twelve, your maximum magic increases to six, and you learn the spell Static Shock, which uses two magic points to add plus three damage to your next non-spell attack, and the spell Thunder Clap, which uses three magic points to paralyze enemies around you for one turn."

Moonflower: "Yay! I got strong attacks, now, too!"

Dawn Break: "Blood Edge, your maximum health increases to six, your maximum magic increases to six, and you learn the spell Manipulate, which uses zero magic points to take control of a nearby inanimate object, and the spell Reap, which uses three magic points to swing your weapon and heal yourself instead of dealing damage."

Sweet Biscuit: "Oh, good!"

You ask if casting a spell that costs no magic points prevents regeneration.

Dawn Break: "Precisely. Combat has now ended, and Whirlpool obtains four arcane lodestones from the golem's remains."

Sea Swirl: "Alright, let's split the loot, and take one lodestone each. And before we continue, I gotta go to the little fillies' room. I'll be right back!"

The clock on the wall indicates a quarter past nine.
