Now, don't go snooping around in other ponies' stuff. (Even though you'd really like to know what's in that mysterious box...) Just go back to the campfire and wait for an opportunity to ask her about it.

You close the chest, and return to Crystal Charm's side by the campfire.

Crystal Charm: "That's what I'm talking about. Now, then..."

Crystal Charm clears her throat.

Crystal Charm: "Ahem... Legend says that a long time ago, the Everfree Forest was a beautiful woodland of inexhaustible resources, and from it prospered all of ponykind.

At the heart of the forest grew a magical tree from which the royal sisters had forged a powerful artifact. With it, they could protect their subjects from any threat in the land and beyond.

That is, until one day, the younger of the royal sisters was consumed by evil. The elder sister, unable to defeat her, harnessed the magic of the artifact, and used it to banish the younger sister into the moon. The battle left the royal castle in ruins!

It was only soon after that a beast of chaos seized the opportunity to strike at the weakened pony kingdom. In an act of desperation, the remaining sister wielded the artifact once more to defeat the beast, but victory came at great cost.

Drained of its magic, the heart of the Everfree Forest succumbed to the beast's corruption, and twisted into treacherous wilderness. No longer able to control the environment, the ponies fled the Everfree to the far corners of Equestria.

Although the forest never truly recovered from the corruption, new and unique resources continue to flourish within it to this day. And that's how it goes!"
