The Mortal Paper Fist

Let’s only take what we really need and leave the rest to our fellow Guild members who may want to go on their own voyages.

* One Pocket Stardial to keep track of the date.
* Four Magic Bandages to speed-up the recovery in case one of us gets injured.
* A Machete. If the Empire is as untamed as Honourshine said, we may need it to clear a path through the wilderness between settlements.
* The Medium Tent and the two bedrolls in case we have to camp in the wilderness. [...]

Choosing to take only what you feel is necessary, you settle on a couple of tools, a few bandages, and some camping gear.

You get 2 Bedrolls, Machete, 4 Magic Bandages, Medium Tent, and Pocket Stardial!

Meanwhile, Moonflower spends a few minutes marvelling at each and every available item on display. And while she certainly doesn't need all of them, the mere possibilities seem to inspire her.

Moonflower: "We can take anythin'? For free?"

Rarity: "Yes, darling. All of these are covered by the sponsors."

Moonflower: "Whoa! How 'bout this over here? Is it free too?"

As the bat pony picks her favourites here and there, you turn to Honourshine, and ask her if she needs anything.

Honourshine: "Nothing I couldn't buy... except maybe a book or two on the Kirin. Their island is days away from the eastern coast, so I wouldn't mind having something to read while we travel."

You nod, and suggest visiting a library again sometime today. You remember the one in Hoofington featuring stories about dragons and griffons — perhaps there was something on their neighbouring empire as well.

Honourshine: "Mhm. When were you planning to depart?"

You tell Honourshine that you haven't decided yet, but with a ship being prepared for the morrow, you could leave anytime between this evening and the next.

Moonflower: "I think I got everythin' I want!"

You nod, and feeling well-equipped for your next adventure, you thank Rarity for the gear.

Rarity: "Travelling light, are we? Well, good luck to all of you!"

The clock on the wall indicates five past ten. As the morning sun beams through the rose-tinted windows of the peaceful guild hall, you ponder what to do next.

	Just light or too light? Adding a Voyager's Helmet and Goggles to our gear probably wouldn't hurt. Or what would she recommend as the expert here? Either way, Shine has a point. Let's check the local library for some books about the Kirins. And afterwards, we should all have some lunch together. Anypony know a nice, quiet restaurant around here?

	Actually... let's get a Voyager's Helmet (for protection and as a suitable costume for adventuring through untamed temperate/tropical wilds) and Goggles (to keep all manner of vegetation, insects, and rogue dust storms out of our eyes; can be worn around our neck until needed if they impact visibility). We should let the fashion expert give her opinion if we need anything else to complete our outfit. And finally, a sheaf of scrolls and a notebook. Once that's taken care of... there has to be more to this facility. We should take another look around. At worst, we can chat up the new initiates or Lyra, or enjoy some cupcakes.

	We've shared a bedroll before, actually! See 2015-06-23. The main inconvenience I can forsee is snuggling being uncomfortable due to tropical temperatures... at least it's only discomfort.

	That was just a for one night and Blazer was more focused on snuggling than sleeping. I was worried that squeezing two ponies into one bedroll for multiple nights may end up being very uncomfortable.

	On second thought, go and grab that adventuring helmet and goggles from Rarity. Moonie is rocking her cap, but you could use a signature headwear yourself. Maybe more, if the fashionista has any expert opinions on an sensible, adventuring outfit. Also, we forgot to grab scrolls. Get a sheaf of those. Then go out for early dinner, those cupcakes were great, and there's a great bakery in town.

	No notebook (for a captain's/traveler's log), blank scrolls (we are out), or matching uniforms/cosplay🙁, but at least Moonflower has us covered on the first two, and some other items. And as cartoon characters, maybe we don't care about head injuries. 😛 Our next action is quite open! I had a list of potential actions in 2023-11-20, but we've checked some of them off. I'm tempted to skip time now to get to the action faster (narratively speaking), though some slice of life updates might be tempting too. Anyways, here's a giant list of ideas. - Skip time until it's time to leave - Eat Pinkie Pie's cupcakes - Visit the Ponyville library (I figure the selection is better than in Hoofington?) - Greet trainee adventurers/EVA agents - Ask if the guildhall has any other amenities - Acquire a map of Equestria and Ponyville, for fun (cause there's no maps of the Kirin island) - Visit Bon Bon's shop - Chat up Lyra (still in the guildhall?) - Find somepony to flirt with (mostly kidding)

	I'd reckon Twilight and Honourshine discussed the bell already when she visited the guild and commissioned the voyage (2023-11-06): I'd start with the Ponyville Library. In fact, I think I saw her there just last night. She must've been reading through the books I recommended to her. ...though I guess this won't hurt.
